The Launch of the Healthcare Federation of South Africa
The Healthcare Federation of South Africa was successfully launched in South Africa on the 21st July 2019at the ICC in Cape Town. At the event, the Director-General of Health, Ms. Precious Matsoso, gave the National overview of PPP and its positive role it will play in the implementation of the NHI program. The Honorable Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize, also mentioned the launch in his speech at the BHF Conference. He then referred to the HFSA at the signing of the Social Health Compact on the 25th July at the George Mukhari Hospital in Lusikisiki.
HFSA will provide a key platform that will join the Private Sector of SA and also eventually organize the Private Healthcare sector in the Southern Africa region.
Since it’s been launched, the HFSA will focus on registering the entity, developing the governance framework, and marketing the concept widely in the healthcare sector in South Africa. For governance we would like this to be coordinated through the offices of the Director-General of Health and the Minister of Health. The interim Board will be the carry out the tasks, simultaneously strengthening HFSA and the SADEC neighbors to create a regional platform.
